FAQ
Documentary Photography– is an form of photography, an artform, that is used to chronical events, and environments, examples of both significant and relevant to history and historical events, as well as everyday life.
- Q: What should I expect in a documentary photo session?
- A: Again, you do you. Documentary photographers often say “day in a life” or “snapshot/slice of life” as a title for their sessions. And we mean it! You are living your life at the pace that suits you, and distracted with how hectic life can be, but living your moments nonetheless. Trust me, you will be happy to see images following your session that show you as you are/were, in a time that is now gone but left it’s impact. Go about your daily habits, work, behaviors, relationships as you always would, but now with me following you around with my camera. I am a fly-on-the-wall, there is no pressure to look a certain way, act as though you are being photographed or even look at the camera. Assuming that happens naturally, let’s go with it. This is simple and authentic photography. Skip the panic attack and/or the Xanax, and enjoy your moments!
- Q: How should I prepare for a documentary photo session?
- A: Once you book your session, you have answered the “When”. Following, I will be sending you a questionnaire to cover in detail the “Where” and the “Who”. Pick places that you love, that are simple and easy to access, that give you a relaxed feeling, or give you an authentic feeling. Pick the people that you want to document relationships with through this visual storytelling platform; is that your family, is that your friends, is that just you? Trust me, it all works to deliver your story in an image. Lastly, expound a bit on why these places and people are important to you, what they mean to you, and how they interact in your life including the important details of the story you want to tell. Do you want to show how your Saturday morning pancake routine with your kids is a hilarity you hope to remember all the rest of your life? Or how your gardening hobby shows great craft and skill along with your delicate touch? Or how hard you have worked to master your climbing route at the local gym, and you and your friend’s celebration after you nail the last crux? The only preparation beyond your questionnaire is to bring your authentic self on the day of your session. I can’t wait to meet you and tell your story!
- Q: Are there any COVID-19 precautions to consider?
- A: Yes. If you or anyone in your session group has a fever or COVID related symptoms, was in contact with a person who tested positive for COVID or tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days, or on the day of your session- please notify me. We can reschedule for a time when you are all better and healthy! Like all of you, I have a family to consider. Let’s communicate and be kind. As for myself, I will do the same. If you receive a rescheduling request from me, it will be clear to define to you the COVID related circumstances of my rescheduling needs. I will work tirelessly to ensure that appointments are kept and not rescheduled- if I can control it. Further, I will wear a facemask during your session until guidelines suggest otherwise. You and your group DO NOT have to wear a facemask during your session.
